Digital shopping in India has never been easier, but it has also brought new risks. From fake websites to UPI frauds, scammers are getting smarter. As a shopper, your first line of defense is awareness.

Here are the top tips to keep your money safe while you hunt for deals.

1. Check the URL and Website Security

Before you enter your card details, look at the address bar. A secure site always starts with “https://” and has a small padlock icon. Scammers often use “lookalike” domains for example, instead of a trusted site, they might use a slightly misspelled version. Always double-check that you are on the official website.

2. Is the Deal Too Good to Be True?

We all love a 90% discount, but if a brand-new iPhone is being sold for ₹5,000, it’s a major red flag. Scammers use “unbelievable” prices to lure you into making quick, emotional decisions. Legitimate platforms like Jumbo offer massive discounts, not just handed out on suspicious links.

3. Verify Before You Pay

Never share your OTP or bank password with anyone. Official customer support will never ask for these details. When using UPI, remember that you only enter your PIN to send money, never to receive it. If a seller insists on a direct bank transfer to a personal name instead of using a secure payment gateway, stop the transaction immediately.

4. Read the Reviews

Before trying a new platform, look for a Jumbo App or search for the brand online. Check social media comments and independent review sites.
