The Indian Premier League has always been a factory for raw talent, but every so often, a player emerges who doesn’t just knock on the door they kick it down. I’ve witnessed many stars rise, but Delhi Capitals’ latest sensation, Madhav Tiwari, is making waves with a confidence that is truly infectious.

Following his match-winning performance against Punjab Kings at the high-altitude Dharamshala stadium on May 11, the 22-year-old was asked about his role. His response was as explosive as his batting: “I’m 100% bowler and 100% batter.”

A Match-Winning Splash

In just his second IPL appearance, Tiwari proved he isn’t just a squad filler. Coming in at number 8 with the game hanging by a thread, he smashed an unbeaten 18 off just 8 balls. His cameo, featuring two crisp boundaries and a towering six, provided the perfect finishing touch to a massive chase of 211.

But the 100% bowler and 100% batter didn’t stop there. Earlier, he showed his mettle with the ball, dismissing the dangerous Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly. Finishing with figures of 2/40, he handled the “death overs” of IPL 2026 with the composure of a veteran.

The Secret Sauce: Mentorship

Success like this doesn’t happen by accident. Tiwari credited his growth to the DC coaching staff, specifically working on variations with Munaf Patel and range-hitting with Ian Bell.

“Ian Bell told me, ‘You have the power… just hold your shape and react,’” Tiwari shared after being named Player of the Match.

As the IPL 2026 playoff race intensifies, having an all-rounder who considers himself a 100% bowler and 100% batter gives Delhi a massive tactical edge.
